Andrew Vargas, 22, a Hayward man, has pleaded guilty to felony DUI charges.
Vargas was driving his truck in San Francisco and struck Ryan White, 9, as he was leaving a baseball game at nearby AT&T Park on the night of August 4, 2011.
Vargas also struck a woman, causing minor injuries, as well as two parked cars before fleeing to his apartment where he tried to flee again when he saw the police waiting outside.
Vargas was arrested and found to have a bottle of Jagermeister liquor in the vehicle.
He initially pleaded not guilty to felony DUI causing injury and hit-and-run charges, but agreed to plead guilty today in exchange for serving one year in jail and having the hit-and-run charges dismissed as part of a plea agreement which also includes a restitution payment, amount to be determined, serve five years probation, complete a nine month school for DUI offenders, and pay various fines and fees.
Ryan had suffered a traumatic brain injury, as well as fractures to his pelvis, left leg and ankle and a laceration to his liver.
The case will return to court March 21 to set a sentencing date.

| Huntington Beach Ranked No.1 in Alcohol-Related Car Accidents |
| Posted By Admin |
 |
According to numbers released by the state Office of Traffic Safety, Huntington Beach was ranked No. 1 among California cities of its size in per-capita alcohol-related car accidents in 2009. It is ranked above 55 other cities with a population between 100,000 and 250,000. According to the report a total of 195 people were killed or injured in alcohol-related collisions. "I don't think we knew we were No.1," said Lt. Russell Reinhart. "We knew our numbers were high."
In the first part of 2010, the Huntington Beach officials put together a report on how to address drunk-driving problems in the city. Some strategies were to track the locations where drunk-driving suspects had their last drink and to notify managers who were over-serving customers, or to post the pictures of repeat drunk drivers on the department's Facebook page. One positive outcome of the report was that Huntington police had made 1,558 DUI arrests in 2009, which equaled 1.28% of the city's population. The state average was 0.9%, which showed that Huntington police were being aggressive in fighting DUIs.

Bos was found lying on his bed, incoherent and emotional, with blood smeared on his body and bed sheets. When the EMS team arrived Bos resisted, kicking until a deputy tased him.
